How it works

Designed with care. Built to become organic.

01 APPLICATION — Participants express interest and complete the selection process.

02 TRAINING — Selected mentors complete BCFF’s intercultural mentorship training.

03 MATCHING — Pairs are chosen for genuine personal and career fit, not simple availability.

04 MENTORING — Conversations happen remotely, roughly every other week, for around 30 minutes.

05 IMPACT — Exposure, confidence, perspective, learning, and long-term personal development.

A thoughtful match

Sometimes the right match is surprisingly specific.

Sthembiso was looking for a machine learning engineer who also speaks Mandarin. BCFF matched him with David—a Canadian machine learning engineer, fluent in Mandarin, based in New York City. They began their journey together in person in Johannesburg. More than two years later, they are still mentoring each other. Their story is what thoughtful matching can make possible: a shared professional interest, an unexpected international connection, and a relationship with time to become real.
